Start the Greater Rogers Area hunt on the Van Winkle Trail at Hobbs State Park.
HISTORY
Peter Van Winkle built a steam-powered mill and family house here in 1858. He and his family moved to Texas during the Civil War and while they were gone, the mill and house were burned. After they returned, he built a new 150-horsepower mill in 1866. He also built a new house for his family nearby. There is a raised garden that could be viewed from the windows across the road from the house.
